Our dogs achieve CHIC Certification once they have been screened for every disease recommended and those results are publicly available in the OFA database. As more DNA tests become available and the results are entered, the OFA database will be able to establish whether progeny will be clear, carriers, or affected.
We have done extensive research on the breed and know the standard. We consider the strengths and weaknesses of each potential pairing. We ensure that all breeding dogs are positively identifiable, and only breed dogs that are in good health. We do not breed dogs until they are physically and mentally mature enough. The typical age is around two years. All parent dogs are available for viewing to potential puppy buyers along with proper registration papers, pedigree, COI, and CHIC.
We provide clean, adequate, and safe housing and run areas specific to the nature and exercise requirements for the breed, which includes at a minimum:
An International Champion (IntCH) is a dog that has earned top placements at shows judged by international experts. This title reflects quality, correct structure, and consistency under global breed standards- making it a respected mark of excellence.
An AKC Champion (CH) has earned enough points by winning at American Kennel Club Conformation Shows. This title means the dog meets the official breed standard and has excelled in competition against other top dogs.
The Coursing Ability Test is a fun and instinct-driven event where dogs chase a lure across a long course. Dogs must complete a 300- or 600-yard track (depending on breed) with enthusiasm to earn a pass. This is a great way for our dogs to enjoy running in a safe, structured environment!
FAST CAT® is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs chase a lure one at a time. It's a fun and exciting way for our dogs to get exercise, build confidence, and enjoy a competitive outlet!
The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ program builds a strong foundation for training your dog to be a polite and well-mannered member of society. The 10 test items cover practical, everyday behaviors that every dog should know to be a welcome part of the community.
Trick dog training has been a beloved part of dog culture since the 1920s and 1940s, when famous dogs like Rin Tin Tin and Lassie captured hearts with their performances. Today, trick dog titles are one of the most exciting ways to showcase your dog's talents and build your bond.
*Novice Trick Dog (TKN) - The dog performs 10 tricks from the Novice list. If the dog has a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title on record with AKC, it only needs to complete 5 Novice tricks (CGC + 5) to earn the title.
*Advanced Trick Dog (TKA) - The dog must first earn the Intermediate Trick Dog title, then perform 10 tricks from the Advanced list to achieve this level.
The AKC Temperament Test evaluates a dog's reaction to everyday life experiences and environmental challenges. It helps us ensure our breeding prospects have stable, sound temperaments- a key consideration for families and performance homes alike.
AKC FIT DOG titles are noncompetitive and allow dog owners to choose from a variety of activities to earn titles. These programs are designed to create a structured, personalized fitness plan that you and your dog can enjoy together. There are three levels of FIT DOG titles: Bronze (FITB), Silver (FITS), and Gold (FITG). Each level requires completing a specific number of activity points, depending on the title.
The Barn Hunt Instinct Test introduces dogs and their owners to the exciting sport of Barn Hunt. This pass/fail class is designed to familiarize dogs with basics of the game, where they must use their natural instincts to locate a rat safely enclosed in a tube. Passing the Instinct Test is often the first step before moving into competitive Barn Hunt titles.
Our breeding prospects' skills are evaluated through professional training programs.
Children have always played a vital role in the future of canine sports. The first competition for young handlers dates back to 1920! Junior Showmanship (sometimes called "Junior Handling") is a special program where kids, ages 9 to 18, learn basic handling skills, how to care for a dog, and how to present them confidently in the ring. In Junior Showmanship, the dog is not judged- the handler is. Juniors are evaluated by an official AKC Judge based on their presentation, teamwork with the dog, and sportsmanship. Participating in Junior Showmanship teaches important life skills: how to be a good sport, how to set goals and master new challenges, and how building a strong bond with a dog can lead to amazing experiences- and maybe even a future career in the sport! Who knows? A love of Junior Showmanship could be the start of a lifelong journey.
We are committed to providing the highest standard of care for our mothers and their litters. Our approach includes:
*A quiet, low-stress environment for nursing and whelping, kept separate from other dogs.
*Ample space for the mother to move freely without risk of stepping or lying on her puppies.
*Opportunities for the mother to rest away from her puppies if she chooses.
*A whelping area that is cleaned frequently to maintain a hygienic and safe space for both mom and babies.
We do not breed a female until she is physically and mentally mature (typically between 18 to 24 months of age) and has been evaluated by a licensed veterinarian to confirm excellent health. CHIC and full genetic testing are also completed prior to breeding.
We do not breed a female beyond the appropriate age for her breed, or as advised by a licensed veterinarian.
We also limit the number of litters a female may have in her lifetime to what is appropriate for her health- typically no more than six litters- or fewer if recommended by a veterinarian.
